Climate Collaboratorium launches new site

The Climate Collaboratorium today launched a new website with significantly expanded features and the capability to scale to large numbers of users. New features include:

  • User profiles - so users can store pictures and other information about themselves (if they want)
  • Activity logs - so you can tell who is doing what in different parts of the site
  • Plan summary page - so you can easily compare plans on key dimensions
  • Resources section - so you can add many new kinds of resources to the site, including
    • artistic representations (such as short stories or pictures) of possible future worlds represented by the plans, and
    • links to useful climate-related information elsewhere

Chief Software Architect Joshua Introne managed the development of the new system, including coding many modules himself and managing contributions by several other software developers. The system was developed using Liferay an open source social collaboration portal. A number of the modules were developed under contract to MIT by TopCoder.
